something against something else. In Islam, Sawm means to protect oneself
against three things (during the days) of the month of Ramadan, as they were
commented by Allah: eating, drinking and sexual intercourse. In the month of fasting, all believers are soaring in to the pinnacle of
self fulfillment. The fasting, which arriving each year, makes the life of

The Arabic word, sawm, is the synonym of English word, fasting. Imam
Razi(R) says: the linguistic meaning of the fasting is to avoid anything or

The nocturnal prayer (Tharaweeh)
|
|
|
|
The nocturnal prayer (Tharaweeh) is a voluntary prayer which is
recommended only in the nights of Ramadan. Imam Sharqavi says: the word, Tharaweeh,
is the plural form of tharweehath, its meaning is ‘to take rest at one time’.
The one who does this prayer might take rest at each four Raka’ths of it (Fath-hul
mubdi 2/165).The very name, Tharaweeh, itself can be seen in the
time of the Companions of Prophet (Peace and Blessing of Allah be upon him).
Imam Masu’di states in his Muruju-dhahab(2/328): the caliph Umer (R) ordered to
pray Tharaweeh in the nights of Ramadan in 14H. Muhammad ul Baghdadi says: it
was Umer (R) who was the first one for implementing the prayer, Tharaweeh, in
congregation. But, the deviators argue that it is imam Bukhari who brings the
name, Tharaweeh, at first. Some argue that this naming took place after the
time of imam Bukhari. Nevertheless, from the histories we can understand that
this naming was famous in the time of the prophet’s followers.

time wisely
|
|
|
|

calls this month 'Ayyaman Ma'doodaat' (A fixed number of days). Before we know
it, this month of mercy and forgiveness will be over. We should try and spend
every moment possible in the worship of Allah so that we can make the most of this
blessing. However, there are some of us who waste away, trying to obey Allah by
disobeying him!.Most Muslims who fast Ramadan focus on the benefits and rewards of it. But in doing so, we often make mistakes that instead of adding to our experience actually detract from it. Mistakes that can make us commercialize Ramadan as so many other religions have commercialized their sacred days. May Allah help us to spend our time wisely this Ramadan and help us to avoid these mistakes. .

Medical Benefits of Ramadan
|
|
|
|
Muslims do not fast because of medical benefits, but because it has been
ordained to them through our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessing of
Allah be upon him). There are so many medical benefits as a result of fasting.
Fasting, in general, has been used in medicine for medical reasons including
weight management, for rest of the digestive tract and for lowering lipids.
There are many adverse effects of total fasting as well as so-called crash
diets. Islamic fasting is different from such diet plans because in Ramadan
fasting, there is no malnutrition or inadequate calorie intake. Read more
