Building a House

Majid very carefully places a book on top of five blocks, and happily says, "Alhamdulillah".

Mariyam, his little sister asks him, "What you make?" Majid replies, "I am building a house. Here are four pillars. Down here is the ground floor and on top here is the first floor."

Mariyam said, "I want house." Majid has learnt that saying no to Mariyam doesn't work, so he quickly tries gives her a few blocks. "Mariyam these are your blocks and here is your land. You can build your house here but you cannot come on my land," explains Majid to Mariyam. Happily Mariyam nods her head in agreement.

Majid now puts another four pillars and builds a second story to his house, and happily says, "Alhamdulillah".

Meanwhile Mariyam has managed to put all four pillars up. She takes a book and places it on her pillars. CRASH! Down go the pillars and the book. Little Mariyam starts crying, "House broken, house fall down."

Majid tries to comfort his sister. "I will help you to build the house." In between sobs Mariyam says, "Help! Make house."

Majid looks at the book and notices that Mariyam has used a very heavy book.
"Oh Mariyam!" exclaims Majid. "Your book is too heavy and your pillars are not strong enough to take the heavy weight." "Let us use a lighter book," suggests Majid.

Soon the pillars are up and Majid places a smaller and thinner book on top of the pillars. Mariyam jumps up and down with joy shouting, "Mariyam's house nice. Mariyam likes house." Mariyam is very excited. Soon everyone comes to see what all the commotion is about.

Mum says. "Mariyam's house is big
Alhamdulillah."

Mariyam as usual repeats everything her mum says,
"Mariyam's house big.
Alhamdulillah."

Hakim is very curious and thinks aloud, "Can I build this with three pillars." He tries and his structure looks shaky.

Majid tries to build the house with only two pillars He tests the structure, and says, "No, this house can fall any time."

Cheeky Hakim tries to build with one pillar and the structure comes crashing down.

Eleven year old Basith teases his brother, and challenges him, "Hakim how about building it with no pillars at all."

Hakim the clown of the family takes a book in his hand and pretends he has built it without pillars, and says, "Look guys no pillars." All of them run after him to tickle "What is that supporting the book Hakim?" "Is it an elephant's trunk?" they all ask him and tickle him.

Farah who was reading in the next room walks in and shows a picture of the solar system everyone gathers around to enjoy the beautiful colours of the planets. "Here is the earth," says Hakim.

"Pluto is the smallest planet that Allah has created." says Majid. "It is also the furthest planet from the sun; therefore it is also the coldest planet."

Little Mariyam is saying, "Sun, sun, Sun hot."

"Yes, this is the sun".
"Allah Ta'ala made the sun".
"Subhanallah," says mum. Mariyam also repeats, "Subhanallah, Subhanallah."

Suddenly curious Hakim enquires, "Where are the pillars?
What keeps the moon up? How come the moon doesn't fall down?

Majid also wonders aloud quite amazed, “No pillars! How do all the planets stay up?"

Basith says, “I know. There is no gravity in space so nothing falls down everything just floats around."

Farah enquires, "you mean the moon just floats around?'

Mum corrects her, "No, Farah, the moon does not just float around. It moves around the earth along a path called the orbit. The moon goes around the earth and the earth goes around the sun.

Mum read the verse 21:33 [Ŝurat Anbiya]

And He it is who has created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon, each in an orbit floating. [Each one spinning around its own axis: travelling in an orbit.]

"What is an orbit?" enquires Majid.

Basith the family's walking encyclopedia quips, "An orbit is the path of a natural object like the moon that moves under the influence of a bigger force like the earth. The earth is under the influence of a bigger force the sun."

Hakim is still asking, "But why doesn't the earth and all the other planets fall down without pillars.

Dad appears in the door way and makes a suggestion, "Why don't we read the Qur'an and see what Allah says about the heavens."

Dad looks in the index of the Qur'an and finds Ŝurat 13:2

Allah the Most High is He who raised the skies without any pillars that you can see So, dad says, "Allah has created the skies without any pillars. Allah is Al Muqthadir, The All powerful and He is Al Kabir, The Most Great.

Yes, Allah can make the planets and all in space without any pillars. Only Allah who is Al Muqthadir can make the skies without any pillars. Masha Allah, Masha Allah." says dad in amazement.

Basith says, "Subhanallah, Allah has made the skies without any pillars.

Mariyam joins in and says, "Masha Allah, Masha Allah".

Hakim who is still amazed says, "We cannot build anything without pillars. Subhanallah, Subhanallah see how Allah Almighty has built the skies without any pillars. Only Allah the Great can build without pillars. The whole family says, "Subhanallah, Subhanallah; Glory be to Allah,

The Creator of the worlds."
