Umer (R) one of the prominent among 'Quraish' became the second caliph as per the wish of Abubacker. Before Umer embraced Islam, prophet(PBH) had prayed Allah to strengthen Isam by the power of Umer. He was one of the main enemies of Islam. One day he came out with his sward to kill prophet. On the way, he happened to hear the sweet recitation of Qur'an from the house of his own sister. It deeply affected his mind. He went straight to prophet and embraced Islam. Thus the prayer of prophet was materialized. Then he became the great saver of Islam.

Umer was an hero and his presence encouraged the Muslims to propagate Islam in public. His presence revealed the truth and untruth to public. So prophet called him 'faruque'. Some times his opinions were identical to 'vahy'. Prophet had once said that devil give the way to Umer (R). He was a nightmare for his enemies. He participated in all wars with prophet. During his administration, justice and peace existed in the state. He used to perambulate throughout the country at night to know the problems of his subjects and to solve it.

Important tasks

The administrative tenure of Umer (R) was the age of victories. Muslims conquered several countries such as Iran , Iraq , Syria and Egypt . Thus the Persian empire and Eastern Rome came under Muslims.

1. For the convenience of administration, Abubacker(R) had divided the country in to states and appointed governors and 'Kadis' in all states.

2. The names of soldiers were registered and brought the salary system.

3. He made special register to give a certain amount from govt. treasury to each Muslim.

4. He deported enemies from Arab Peninsula and made it a complete Muslim state.

5. He expanded Masjid Al-Haram and Masjid An-Nabavi

6. Established Hijra year.

7. Tharavih was brought under a single imam.

8 Islamic coins were introduced (instead of Persian coins).

Umer(R) who turned the country in to a well fare state was acknowledged by all. One day while he was performing the Prayer a 'Majusi' (the devotee of fire) called Abu lu'-lua stabbed him with poisoned dagger. It resulted in his death. He was buried near the holy tombs Prophet (PBH) and Abubacker (R)
